Officially Kawakyō-to but often simply referred to as Kawa, Kawakyo is the capital city of the Eastern Province, as well as its only federal district.
Unlike most other capital cities, Kawakyo is a bustling metropolis, with a staggeringly high population of close to sixteen million residents in the city proper and an estimated forty million total in the greater metropolitan area.
Formerly a fairly ethnically homogenous city, only allowing immigration for races who could trace their origins back to the eastern archon and by extension the lands of the Eastern Province; In the nearly one hundred and forty years since the end of the war, and subsequently the unification of government, Kawakyo has since become a veritable melting pot.
Since the instatement of regulations on magic usage following the establishment of the Department of Normalcy (DoN) and the signing of the Order Act, Kawakyo has become one of the safest places to live in the entire world.
In spite of this, there is a common saying among DoN employees:
"The best place to hide a tree is in a forest."
And this may hold especially true in a "forest" as exceptionally dense as the eastern capital.
The Mina Ward is one of Kawakyo's special wards as well as one of the most culturally diverse areas in all of the greater metropolis.
It's home to both the majority of elves, in the affluent, upscale ethnic enclaves of West Mina, as well as other foreign races alongside more traditionally eastern architecture and culture on the other end of the ward in East Mina.
East Mina is, as mentioned, culturally the more traditional part of the Mina Ward, but even beyond that, it's widely accepted as the most traditional neighborhood in the entire city, being host to the largest number of shrines, on top of boasting the most authentic eastern cuisine in the whole province, some say.
The inhabitants of East Mina tend to take pride in their culture, with festivals that honor their long absent archon still being held seasonally to this very day.
Aside from being Yoshiya Isa's and possibly other characters current area of residence, Midtown Kawakyo is, as the name might suggest, the "center" of the city; Separating the adjacent southern areas of Mina and Downtown (including all wards that comprise Downtown Kawakyo) from the northern, Uptown Kawakyo.
While it is not the absolute most populous part of the city, Midtown is still one of the more heavily populated districts in Kawakyo, as well as its commercial nexus point.
While Downtown boasts by far the larger number of actual stores and activities, Midtown is where large corporations tend to establish themselves, and as such it is an extremely expensive part of the city to live, second only to the aforementioned Downtown area, making it home to many a celebrity and CEO.
"To inspire and challenge students through the pursuit of academic excellence, while promoting freedom of thought and expression so as to maximize their talents for the betterment of society."
This is the missions statement of Seiki Academy, a historied and prestigious private high school located near the in the Mina Ward.
With the Mina Ward accounting for roughly twenty six percent of the city's entire foreign population, it almost goes without saying that Seiki would have a largely diverse student body.
Seiki's elusive founder and principal, Samual Luxe, prides himself on this diversity, having once made the bold claim that Seiki graduates go on to shape all corners of the world, without fail.
Regardless of whether or not this is verifiably true, influential people and their children do tend to gravitate towards the academy, so it's possible that there might be more to this assertion beyond simple self promotion.
One of the many clubs at Seiki Academy, after coming dangerously close to disbanding at the start of the second semester due to a sudden, drastic drop in membership, the art club has just barely met its quota again thanks to its new members, the transfer student Yoshiya Isa and former cooking club member, Kana Bonini.
In stark contrast to the professionalism of most clubs in the academy, the art club is a strange gathering of peculiar characters.
The club's two remaining participants, the club leader Kaela Hasida and the disgruntled Alys Lavena very clearly don't get along, for reasons unknown.
Furthermore, their club advisor, the self absorbed and bodacious Io Calla, doesn't actually seem too keen on doing any club advising, often not bothering to show up at all.
All that being said, In a school as first-rate as Seiki Academy, one has to wonder if this blatantly mismatched and generally unmotivated group of people really managed to just completely fall through the cracks, or if there might be more to this particular club than meets the eye.
